Vidya Bhawan Gandhian Institute - Best College in Udaipur

Vidya Bhawan Gandhian Institute of Educational Studies

Vidya Bhawan Gandhian Institute of Educational Studies (VBGIES) is a Teacher Education College under the umbrella of the Vidya Bhawan Society (VBS), Udaipur. It was inaugurated on November 14, 2008, by the eminent Indian Gandhian thinker, author, and former Chancellor of Gujarat University, Late Shri Narayan Desai. The multifaceted social worker Shri Riyaz Tehsin (former President VBS) and the eminent educationist Professor M.P. Sharma (former Principal VBGIES) played an instrumental role in its establishment.

All the VBS institutions are different and have some special characteristics.

VBGIES offers you a chance to study for a teacher education diploma/degree with a deeper understanding of Education based on the life and thought of Gandhi. The emphasis is on promoting the values of truth, non-violence, peace, simplicity, tolerance, dignity of labour, inter-ethnic understanding and harmony.

Rather than indoctrination, efforts are made to bring out the inherent potential of student teachers and to sensitise them to pragmatically think about ways of improving the character and creativity of their students and encourage them to become self-sufficient and self-governing. This is done through providing opportunities for social participation and reconstruction of experiences, use of flexible teaching-learning approaches, creative activities, freedom and guidance to pursue interests, etc.

The Vidya Bhawan Kala Sansthan Shikshak Prashikshan Vidyalaya (VBKSSPV) provides a two years diploma course in elementary teacher education. The 69 years old Institute was amongst the first in India to prepare craft teachers.
