Project Connect, led by BALCO CSR and implemented by Vidya Bhawan Society, is a transformative initiative focused on improving learning environments at government schools in its community. Beyond academic excellence, it aims to offer career guidance and encourage employee volunteerism.

Specialized Field Instructors in SEMA (Science, English, Mathematics and Accountancy) subjects collaborate closely with government schools and provide regular remedial teaching at learning centres for grades 9th to 12th, a critical part of Project Connect’s mission. Identifying and main streaming of dropouts is also one of the major components.  Additionally, Project Connect conducts capacity-building initiatives for government teachers, emphasizing activity based and experiential learning-based pedagogy.

The initiative also organizes summer camps, winter camps, reading melas, book festivals, science and mathematics exhibition, offering a holistic educational experience with various events.

Project Connect has positively impacted over 2500 government school students in Korba Block and aims to reach even more, reflecting its commitment to making a tangible difference. Project: Shiksha Sambal Program, Fellowship Program

Summary of Fellowship Program:

The Fellowship Program, started in 2022 in the schools of Ajmer, Agucha, Chittor and Dariba under Shiksha Sambal Project, is a major program of Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL) and Vidya Bhawan. This program was operated as a pilot project in the years 2022-24, Under this intervention, selected fellows with B.El.Ed. and B.Ed. degrees from various universities in the country will directly engage with children from Class 6 to Class 8 by identifying language, mathematics and cognitive abilities and improving their understanding of the basic skills of these subjects. It was an activity-based intervention with children from all classes, using a variety of teaching materials under the guidance of eminent reference persons and an attempt was made to involve children, teachers, and the community.

Fellow’s learning outcomes from the Fellowship: 

This fellowship program provides participants with a comprehensive skill set crucial for effective teaching and leadership in education. It covers pedagogical theories, subject expertise, and classroom management. Participants refine assessment skills and explore technology integration for improved learning. The program encourages reflective practice and collaboration for professional growth and student support. Participants also learn about education policies and ethical considerations. Leadership and advocacy skills are developed to promote equitable education policies. Overall, the program aims to cultivate competent educators who positively influence student learning and contribute to educational advancement.

Fellows Responsibilities:

  • Field fellows collaborate on planning and executing Shiksha Sambal Programs, while also carrying out assigned tasks, conducting research, and actively participating in meetings and discussions. Additionally, they play a key role in implementing competency-based education and inclusion programs in schools to create inclusive learning environments.
  • Fellows engage in personal and professional growth, deepening their understanding of programs and curriculum, while also visiting classrooms to implement plans, observe, and provide feedback, ensuring resource maintenance and active teacher involvement.
  • Field fellows are supported by researchers or project leads in conducting field-based research. They assist in literature reviews, data analysis, and preparing reports, presentations, and deliverables.
  • Field fellows contribute to achieving project targets, plan intervention, changing the classroom scenario and create innovative impact through their direct teaching intervention with students and teachers, conducting assessments and data collection, data cleaning, statistical analysis, and qualitative interpretation.

Started in 2008, the Shiksha Sambal Project (SSP) by Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL) aims to provide quality education to underprivileged rural children at the senior school level. This partnership involves HZL, VBERC, and the Rajasthan government, operating in 72 schools across 6 districts in Rajasthan. The primary goal is to enhance Class IX and X students’ conceptual clarity and improve their Board exam performance.

Job Description:

  • Administration of estate related matters for entire Vidya Bhawan and ensuring overall Safety & security of VB estate.
  • Supervision/monitoring of civil works, new constructions etc, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry and landscaping, etc. works.
  • To maintain and upkeep all estate related revenue and legal documents.
  • Regular inspection of Vidya Bhawan estate, its buildings, premises, lands etc.
  • Identification of VB infrastructure such as buildings, roads, and boundaries etc. that need technical and other maintenance, Getting estimates and proposals prepared for new constructions etc.

  • Arranging for preparation of estimates for all civil related and associated work, either through VBS or any other agency.
  • For Execution of civil and allied works managing quotation process, getting designs prepared, monitoring of execution etc.
  • Liaison with relevant government authorities (Nagar Nigam, UIT, PWD, BSNL, AVVNL, Land Revenue Dept., Labour Dept. Collector’s office or any other relevant office as the case may be.
  • Managing and leading Estate Office team consisting of the engineer, supervisor and other staff.
  • Taking all necessary steps for ensuring safety and security of estates.
  • Handling and liasoning for legal cases related to estate and revenue matters.
  • Ensuring that no encroachment on VB property takes place in any form and taking precautionary measures for prevention/elimination of encroachment, it any.

Experience: 

  • Substantial prior experience in handling estate related matters. as mentioned in the job description above.
  • Sensibility towards Vidya Bhawan’s man-made and natural heritage.
  • Understanding of revenue laws, Revenue and legal documentation and procedures of estate related affairs.
