Vidya Bhawan Senior Secondary School, Udaipur
Established in 1937. Affiliated to Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education, Ajmer (Rajasthan)

Started in 1941, Vidya Bhawan Basic School was the first Gandhian School in Rajasthan. It is located on the outskirts of Udaipur city. The Gandhian idea of organising a school, and its relation with the community, makes the School different from conventional schools; it treats working with hand essential to education. The institution in the beginning embraced a unique approach to education, integrating practical skills with academics, exemplifying holistic development. The school’s commitment to Gandhi’s vision of Heart, Head, and Hands (three H-Formula) coordination was evident through such activities as spinning, sewing, food processing, and electrical work. While the experimental Gandhian approach continued until 2011, changing educational trends led the school to a transition into a conventional institution.
About Vidya Bhawan Basic School
Vidya Bhawan Basic School, established in 1941, holds the distinction of being the first Gandhian School in Rajasthan. Nestled on the serene outskirts of Udaipur, the school was founded with a vision deeply inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of education—emphasizing the harmony of Heart, Head, and Hands.
From its inception, Vidya Bhawan adopted a unique and progressive approach to learning, integrating practical skills with academic knowledge to foster holistic development. Activities like spinning, sewing, food processing, and electrical work were not just add-ons but essential parts of the curriculum, encouraging students to connect learning with real-life experiences.
For seven decades, this Gandhian model flourished, creating generations of responsible, skilled, and community-minded citizens. Although the school transitioned to a more conventional educational framework post-2011 to align with changing trends, its core values and commitment to inclusive, value-based education remain unchanged.
